On Sunday, February 9th, we celebrated the amazing ministires of our United Methodist Women recognizing their caring ministries for the grieving, and ministries that uplift women and children.

Our McPherson First United Methodist Women are part of United Women in Faith. United Women in Faith’s vision is “We are a powerful, fearless force driven by God’s love and united in sisterhood. With a focus on women, children and youth, we act for justice and transform communities. We face the realities we see in the world, even when they are not the ones we would like to see. However, our goal is not to bear witness simply to harms but also to God’s love by acting boldly to change those harms.

Our local United Methodist Women live out this vision in a variety of ways: providing funeral dinners for grieving families, sewing lap blankets for the ill and home bound, supporting Vacation Bible School and summer church camp, donating mission funds to various local and regional organizations, and providing care packages for college students.

This last year, they embarked on a new initiative to assist Save N Share with staying open one evening each month. This provided much needed access to those unable to come during regular hours. UMW volunteers worked in all aspects of the store and the program met with great success.

They also host two larger connection and fellowship events each year to deepen relationships with other women: the Circles of Friends Banquet and the Christmas Tea. And the provide a reading program with books available for checkout in the church library.

We thank the United Methodist Women for their dedication to ministry and caring for others.
